The Sweet Lowdown first appeared at our Festival in 2013 and captivated everyone with harmonies to die for, fabulous playing and great original material. Celtic jigs, Appalachian fiddling, bluegrass, contemporary pop and that particularly Canadian blend of solid tradition and ground-breaking originality combine to produce truly memorable music. Vancouver Island based, the Sweet Lowdown have performed throughout North America and the UK, toured with Stuart McLean and the Vinyl Cafe, produced three critically acclaimed albums and gathered up a slew of award nominations at the Canadian Folk Music Awards and elsewhere. They write great songs as well -- one is on Balsam Range’s IBMA 2017 Album of the Year winning “Mountain Voodoo”. For this year’s Festival, Tad Ruszel rounds out the trio with original members Amanda Blied and Miriam Sonstenes.
