"Meal Ticket" is comprised of Amelia Rose/fiddle & vocals, Mike Stockstill/banjo, and Russell Sholberg/upright bass.
The foundation of Meal Ticket is the duo "Stockstill & Rose" (Amelia and Mike) based in Whitehorse.
The two come from long and diverse backgrounds in music, and over the years have played in Whitehorse bands Klondike Fuel (Mike), Fishead Stew , Canyon Mountain, and Swingin' Pines (Amelia), as well as many bands elsewhere.
They have played as a duo for four years, playing gigs from Dawson City to California.
Their show promises a high energy and unique experience, taking bluegrass and oldtimey tunes, and interweaving gyspy jazz and eastern European flavours.
When ever possible , Stockstill & Rose like to team up and play gigs with Russell, long time friend and musical collaborator of Amelia's.
They played in several bands together over the years which include "Zeellia" (Ukranian /Eastern European ensemble), "Redboot Quartet", (Balkan-jazz quartet ) and "Something about Reptiles".
Based in Vancouver, Russell is a highly sought after bass player and composer.
His work has appeared on Drip Audio releases with the Tony Wilson Sextet, Aeroplane Trio, and Dixie's DeathPool. Favourable reviews and articles of his work have appeared in Exclaim, The Wire, DownBeat, the Globe and Mail, and Mojo Magazine. He continues to play regularly at many of Canada's major jazz and folk music festivals, and has received several awards with jazz band Pugs and Crows.
