“In a few short years, Ella has gone from emerging talent to rising star in Canadian bluegrass and acoustic music.” — Cowichan Valley Bluegrass Festival

Ella Korth is a BC based singer-songwriter and driving guitar and banjo player. Growing up in a family heavily immersed in the acoustic music scene created a lifelong passion for both bluegrass and old-time music, both of which Ella bring to her craft.

A busy touring musician, Ella divides her time between performing with her own musical projects and working as a side-person for various artists. This year Ella supported Grammy Award winning mandolinist John Reischman at the Canadian Folk Music Awards showcase and toured across Europe and North America with Juno-nominated artist Leith Ross. She performs at festivals and tours in Western Canada with her own music and has collaborated extensively with Madeleine Roger and Trent Freeman from the Fretless. Growing up in Nelson BC, and now based in Victoria BC, Ella has an exciting year ahead which includes recording her debut album in Nashville, TN.

Ella will be joined by Trent Freeman, a dynamic violin player who bridges the traditional world and modern innovation. The internationally recognized folk string quartet “The Fretless” has been a primary focus of Trent’s for the past 10 years. As a solo artist, Trent won a Canadian Folk Music Award for Instrumental Album of the Year with his debut recording, Rock Paper Scissors. A staple in the music scenes of both Vancouver and Toronto, Trent is in demand as a recording artist and a side musician, and has worked on countless recordings, scores and performances.

Ella Korth and Trent Freeman have been collaborating, playing on each other’s recording projects and performing at a bluegrass session in Vancouver, BC with Mark Killiansky of Golden Shoals and many guest artists passing through including Allison de Groot and Patrick McGonigle.
