Relative Harmony started its existence as a band family dance band/caller combination with Judy Greenhill (caller), Rick Avery (keyboard) and Katie and Jonathan Avery (fiddles). Based originally in Guelph Ontario, they performed for local and regional dances, weddings and conferences from 2005-2020 throughout Ontario and the American Midwest, where they became a fixture in the English and contra dance communities. Rick and Judy moved to Whitehorse in 2022, and after a short period of adjustment, started a monthly community dance series. The band has now welcomed Megan MacLeod as their fiddler. Originally from Smithers, B.C. she learned her fiddling from the late great Oliver Schroer, and has proved to be a wonderful replacement for Jon/Katie.
Dancers attending a Relative Harmony event can expect a stimulating evening of squares and community dances anchored by Judy’s smooth, concise teaching, and driven by an irresistible and exhilarating collection of Celtic tunes with Megan's driving fiddle and Rick’s dynamic piano. Starting in the fall, local dancers can enjoy monthly Sunday night community dances with Relative Harmony from September to April in the Other Room at the Guild Hall in Porter Creek, Whitehorse.
